Muscat – As summer kicks in, a group of students from the University of Nizwa created a multipurpose cooler bag named ‘Breeze’ whose idea came due to the high temperatures and their impact on portable electronic devices such as phones, laptops among others.

Maryam bin Yousef al Rawahi, the project’s financial director, told Oman News Agency that the device has several uses, whether for electronic devices or cold or hot foods. “Additionally, a study has been conducted on its development for it to become suitable for refrigeration and ice can be dispensed with the presence of this bag,” she said.

“We decided to establish a student organisation consisting of seven members from different disciplines at the university. The team was motivated to continue making the effort to turn the idea into a reality and to seek a patent,” she added.

For his part, Nasser bin Rashid al Riyami, director of production development, said, “The device’s arrival at this stage was not a coincidence. It faced many challenges, but thanks to God, then the team’s efforts and moral support from the Centre for Entrepreneurship at the University of Nizwa made it a reality. Also those who believed in our idea and bet on our success played a great role in the making of this idea and transformed it into a product that serves the community.”

He stressed that this device has future goals and the team is working to implement them. “This bag will be versatile in the future, and we could obtain a patent and establish a large Omani company specialised in a private brand in this field, develop it and introduce the product to the local and global market,” he said.

Muntaha bint Nasser al Awfiya, CEO of the company, explained that the device works to maintain low temperatures inside the bag due to the presence of external fans that disperse the heat, which in turn affects the cooling and controls the temperature automatically with the help of internal sensors set to a certain temperature.

According to Dr Abdullah bin Muhammad al Shukaili, executive director of the Centre for Entrepreneurship and Assistant Professor at the Department of Management at the University of Nizwa, the Cooling Bag Project (Breeze) is one of the projects registered at Injaz Oman, and the university, represented by entrepreneurship, works to develop students’ talents and capabilities and hone them with all the skills required in the field of entrepreneurship.

“The presence of these creative and innovative students at the university enhances Oman 2040’s vision of transforming towards a digital and knowledge economy,” he said.
